Teak swimplatform finish

Now that the holidays are over and I have had my annual dose of some good 'ol eastern shore duck hunting, it is time to think about a few projects.
My teak swim platform, which was finished with marine varnish by the original owner, is in need of a refinish. Last year I striped it down and gave it 2 coats of Sikkens. After one season it has worn off in a few places.
A few fellow boat owners have told me that I would be nuts to refinish it in varnish again based on the way I use the boat (fishing and family swim outings). I also have been told that marine varnish finishes aren't really meant to be that close to/in the water. Finally, to UV's many comments, I am not sure that I want to put in that kind of labor into a finish that will ultimately get banged up.
Are there any other options? Should I just stick with the Sikkens and do more coats?
Comments and suggestions from the faithful are greatly appreciated!
