Interesting that you said you add Marvel Mystery oil. I don't, but my diesel mechanic has 671s in his boat, and he swears by the stuff. I don't know if he puts it in every fillup though.

One thing he has me use and pretty much everyone at my marina now uses with their diesels is Stanadyne diesel fuel conditioner. Cleans up the smoke, increases the cetane and adds all kinds of good stuff to the fuel. The way it was explained to me, it boasts diesel fuel back up to what it was prior to the government making it better a while back.

That stuff combined with my AlgaeX units seem to have eliminated 99% of the Volvo smoke.
