C'on Andre' it was not that bad. I forgot about the shrimp boat broaching in the pass for an hour while we stood off, then we ran the huge standing waves at 24 kts, moving a lot of water, but stable as a train. Did he say water in AJ? Yeah, forgot about that too. Well, I have two 4" air vents in each side of the hull of AJ straight into the motor boxes, not hi-tech like Patrick's, but just round holes covered on the outside by plastic clamshell vents. I had knocked one off backing in the slip at Venice and the local hardware store did not have any, so bought a 4" sewer pipe elbow and glued it in so we could go fishing. Quite a unique touch, a white PVC sewer pipe elbow out the stb. side. But it is the Coonass way. Well, the pipe fell off in the heavy seas, so we were taking a good bit of water in the boat, and the stern bilge pump decided to quit about then. So the seas were so big we (well, "we" nothing - the truth must be known, Andre' had his eyes closed the whole time, reciting the Rosary over and over, so he noticed nothing) did not even notice that we had about a ton of water in the hull running, but when we slowed down for the shrimp boat ballet around the jetty, the forward pump got to work and most of it was out by the time we ran the pass.
But it did pry him away from those bone-brusing Boston Whaler ironing boards into the Best Boat Ever Built.
