Walter,

Unlike NY where the sales tax is one time, personal property tax is an annual thing in NC. It's one of the ways that allows them to keep Real Estate taxes low. They bleed you in other places. I moved from Long Island several years ago. My real estate taxes on the business and house look like an "installment" payment on what I used to have to pay to NY and Suffolk County. I'll happily put up with the nusiance taxes.
