Ernest,
Cutting across to the UVII, if you get in trouble and you're close enough and the fishing is slow and the weather is calm we/someone will come tow you in. I have a big tow line I can loan someone if I can't come because the fishing is hot.
Yea UV I rembember that trip, it was my third in a row of terrifying winds and seas. My first I call my NDE with 100 MPH winds, 17 foot seas, hours and hours slugging it out alot of it in the dark. With a distant second the next trip was bad too, I was spooked.
Your "out of the Pass by default" trip was bad, compounded by the fact that you trolled beam sea. When I complained to UV he said " this is a Bertram, we'll be OK"
I couldn't even look at the waves, I hid my eyes and just waited for that swift roll to start. Never did, but then we also had some H2O ballast in the belly of Another Joy- unknown to us , but we were stable. I was impressed but I was glad to get back to the houseboat that day(and take off my life jacket). We had to stand off South Pass for awhile as 71' shrimp boat made about 10 passes at getting into South Pass before he finally made it in with the standing waves and all. If we had hooked a fish that day I would've cut the line as fast a I could've !
Small waves,
Andre
