Dave,

You're on target with that sequence, except that you don't want to actually bolt up the couplings with engine suspended. Just move the new engine around, block & shim as necessary until the coupling faces closely match when the engine is at rest on the beds.

Check your struts first to see if there are any shims between the strut plate and hull, & if so, I'd drop the struts, remove those shims and re-mount them without any shims. Don't bed them at this point, just bolt them up tightly to the hull.

Be sure that the engine mounts are adjusted to their half way point during this mock up & you'll have plenty of room for final adjustment when everything is locked down later.

You may notice that now the shaft is not true and dead center in the shaft alley. If so, the alley will need to be repositioned.

With the struts un-shimmed, the engine sitting fully on the beds, and the couplings fairly well matched, add two opposing coupling bolts, remove all the bolts from the shaft alley and reposition it to be concentric with the shaft.

Alternatively, you may want to go to fiberglass shaft logs. Check the Tips Section for that rundown...

I also changed the lateral angle of Jim's struts by a few degrees outboard so that the shafts could be removed without dropping the rudders. They just skin past the rudders now, no difference in performance.
