It seems to be problematic with Volvo[and others] not the greatness of their ideas but their implimentation and application thinking [where theory meets reality or the "devil is in the details"]. I had a 28'Carolina Classic/Volvo,supercharged-turbocharged-jackshaft,I/O.Duro prop.[a Tred Barta model]next to me for 2 seasons.
There were no flex plates in the drive line, Volvo used a "rubber" material. The one side lasted one trip the other gave out on the second[the Volvo Mechanic said they were working on a new matl. that would hold up [had to wait for it to be sent from factory, they spent alot of time on that boat] and it improved but they were replaced several more times. After a period of time a viberation problem occured in one of the jackshafts. One day while trolling the supercharger cut in[elect.control] threw people around, they came in one one eng. It seems as thought Volvo rather use gadgets and pressure to create hp than cu.in., which seems to create smoke and shorten eng. life. The owner, like anyone, dinged a prop[s][want a thrill check the price of Dura props]. After two seasons and a long time for sale[the 2nd season] the owner sold it for 150k, it listed stripped new 250k. I'm not interested in paying to be in Volvos research dept.
