What you have been told is correct. Mixing at the temp is important. The cure is heat activated however, so the only real change you will experience is that it will just take a long time to kick.

It will surely not hurt to put a light bulb or ceramic heater nearby just for insurance. I would feel a heck of a lot more secure leaving the light bulb than the heater unattended however... A fire would suck.

In short, it will just take more time to cure.
