Re-Power Questions

B28, Yanmar 230/240, TwinDisk, 1.5 inch shafts.

First, on the transmission/shaft interface, do I want to go with "tapered" shafts or what they are calling "split" or "flat" shafts? I have been lead to believe that "tapered" shafts are tough to work on down the road.

Second, I am hearing that the high dollar Yanmar wiring harness is junk. Good wire, but just not tinned. Further, the design includes + & - runs to the bridge for every gauge, as opposed to using a common ground in the flybridge. Build my own or use the Yanmar harness and the apparently infamous "Y" connectors?

Please bear in mind, I don't know jack about anything diesel related other that what I have read on this site and boatdiesel.

Many thanks in advance.
