Engine Beds

Is it possible to install 6BTA's in a '79 31fbc without cutting down the outboard stringers? I took out the old factory beds which the old 504's rested on and am now thinking about their replacements. The engine compartment is ready otherwise, but I hesitate to cut those stringers. Thanks in advance for your thoughts...
