Thanks, Gents. What I needed to know. I'm the world's worst on paint and varnish, just hate doing it. Good news is that the Snowman is a master painter as long as I figure out the system and have the materials lined up.
So, let me make sure I have it right: Use the West 207 cut 50/50 with alcohol, sand it, put a full uncut coat of 207 over that, sand with 180, then come behind that with the AwlSpar?
I'm stripping with some stuff called Dad's Easy Spray, a non-flammable water based stripper that comes with a little pump bottle sprayer you pour the stuff from the can into. It works like magic, takes all the varnish off the surface in 15 minutes. The sprayer is sort of a gimmick, putting it on with a paint brush works a lot better. A couple of applications does the trick, scraping with a plastic putty knife between, then there is always some varnish down in the grain of the teak. Soooo, I put another coat of stripper on, let it sit about 5 minutes, then scrubbed the wood hard - with the grain, of course - with a stiff nylon brisle brush, and that got it all. Blasted with the hose, then came back with some Dawn and the same brush and that finished it. Grain of the wood got raised some, so after it dried hit it with some #230 paper in a palm sander and it's good to go. Only did all this on one arm of the chair to get the system down pat, so I can write it out and Snow can do the rest.
Take a week or so to get the whole chair stripped and ready for the new finish. Now we havin' fun.
New record high for Jan. 5 in the Red Stick today - 79 and no end in sight.
