Installing new compass

Happy New Year, all!
The flush mount Ritchie compass on Triton II has given up the ghost and leaked out all of the dampening oil. The dome failed due to UV cracking and old age (Sounds familiar, doesn't it?). My present to Triton II is a new blue-card replacement model.
Anticipating the installation in Spring I was thinking that I could shortcut some of the fine tuning by using a GPS compass reading as an accurate comparison. The question is...would I be using Magnetic or True if I used the GPS compass reading? There's no mention in the manual for the GPS. One of the stewards has to know!
