I have 270 Cummins, Capt Pat is correct on his info. What I did however is install a 6" system incase I repower larger], the 270's are 5" out of turbo used "rubber"90's then 5"to6" adapter pipe[glass] rest is 6", including 6" Vernay muflers[which measures 12" in dia.] I have old 31, low deck, jogled exhaust[2 rubber 45s]after mufflers. mufflers are mounted in glassed supts/ss straps and are between stringers. Exhaust is molded into stern. The two problems I ran into was 1. I had to wedge forward part of deck 3/4 to 1" to clear exhaust[no other solution]. It also allows for better deck draining and is impossible to discern. 2. I had to modify the rudder supts. in the stern for clearence[I believe thats also nec./5"]. It is very important that some "restriction"[muffler] or dead end pipe be used with such a large exhaust dia. and low boat so that while laying at sea a charge of water, as stern rises, doesn't end up in the engine heads.
