A second Tony's idea...i tried all versions of packing...the GFO is by far the best. Its sort of soft material and its easy to overtighten, even using your bare hands. The method that works best (for me anyway)...cut and pack the GFO material, just like any other type of packing. Then just tighten the boxes up by hand...but just a little...snug (i;d say more pressure then you could muster with 2 fingers)...then put the boat in the water and have someone run just over idle...then adjust as necessary - then tighten up the locking nut and thats it...i've never had to make another adjustment and have gottne the "drip" down to some mild dampness around the boxes. As far as the "old fashioned" stuffing boxes...this stuff seems to be the best - can't understand why more people don't use/sell it.
