Hi John,
Re-wiring a B35 is a chore... I wanted to do it myself, but when I really thought about the work involved and that I only have about 2-5 hours available at any given time to do anything. I looked around for others to do the job. I looked for several years & got quotes from $8k to $25k.
Most places want time and materials to do this work because it's so open ended. The exception was the $25k guy who said everything would be new, but that was just too much. In the end I found Anchor Bay East, very close to me and with a good reputation. They did the job for time and materials to straighten out the wiring, not a wholesale re-wire & it came in in the $10k neighborhood between 1 & 2 man-months of labor(from people who know what their doing).
As far as reference material, "Boatowners Mechanical and ElectricalManual" from Niger Calder. Is the best. You'll also want to know what ABYC standards are. For instance, I belive yellow is now the standard for 12v ground as opposed to black.
As for pannels, BASS came highly recommended, however Anchor Bay East preferred Panneltornics & I'm very happy with the pannel. As you can see it's got bookoo breakers DC and AC. It was about 1900 or so.
Here's a link to a web page I've started, I just posted some pictures from the re-wire.
br,
John
