Bill, I just had my bottom sand blasted for $12.00US per foot. The soda blaster wanted $45.00US per foot. I put the tarp under and around the boat so as to capture the paint chips and sand. It took an hour and fifteen minutes to actually take the paint off.
There are nicks thru the jell coat especially in the bow and forward part of the hull. No blisters. The boat is a 1972 Bahia Mar.
I figure that the excessive speeds at which we run in the North Atlantic could have put the nicks in. I means if we were to run off shore right this moment, there would be knicks. Seas to 12 feet and with the wind chill, it's like 0 degrees. Yep, BERTRAM weather.
Oh, yeah. The top end of my boat speed is classified. Because that's the way it is.
Getting serious, the guy who did the blasting asked if I were going to barrier coat. I said yes, three coats. Then he replied that I don't have to fix the knicks since the barrier coats would do that.
So now I have a question- will the barrier coat fill in the knicks? Has anyone just barrier coated??
