Bill,
Soda blasting is one of the best and fastest techniques for stripping bottom paint, besides being more environmentally friendly and will not damage gelcoat or fiberglass fibers. It can be difficult to find someone who does the technique though...
All polyester fiberglass hulls should be barrier coated to prevent absorption of water into the gelcoat or fiberglass. Polyester resin will absorb moisture. The Interlux 2000E/2001E barrier coat is an epoxy sealant with aluminum platelets for added abrasion resistance. All bottom paint must be removed before application. If the gelcoated surface exists, a minimum of 2-3 coats are required. If the gelcoat has been removed, a minimum of 4-5 coats minimum. Application Instructions must be followed to a "T".
Best regards,
Patrick
