Bob,

It's doubtful that your wiring was done to the specs of a diagram, but rather the diagram was done to the specs of the actual wiring...

The "electrician" probably needed to splice a length of wire, didn't have a soldering iron on hand, and simply joined the two sections mechanically. At least it was better than just twisting the two together and taping the joint.

There is no necessity for you to duplicate this joint just because it's on a diagram...
