Wiring Question

OK all you electro experts here's one I can't understand. I am doing a lot of rewiring and I have a good wiring diagram (B33 sorry). I have noticed on the diagram there are places where it calls for wires to be conected with a screw and nut in the middle of a run. Is this required to provide a particular resistance or what? Seems odd but when I trace the wires I fund it just like the diagram says with a machine screw and nut mid way between the two ends. What is this for? Thanks in advance.
