batteries

Went over to the camp yesterday and helps Andre' and his son Nathan work out the new set up for the Odyssey batteries. They are amazingly small, and real heavy for the size. Nice luggage style handle on the top and the overall construction is first class. He'll be putting both on the outboard side of the port Cummins in place of one 8-D and removing another 8-D completely from between the engines. He's doing it right, all new welding lead cables and going to a common ground for both batteries, a dirt simple system that cuts down the # of cables and the resulting rat's nest.
Speaking of rat's nest, there were four small wires coming off the center 8-D that we traced. One was a dead end, another to an abandoned cig. liter outlet, and the other two to the center and forward bilge pumps. If we all removed the unused wires from out boats and spliced them end to end, how far would they stretch?
I tightened up the shaft and rudder packings on AJ - supposed to get real cold here, like 28 tonite. Doing some good coonass bbq as we speak.
