The jump when put in gear is the result of not being able to properly put the correct wheel diameter on to load the engine.
Which is common with outdrives and some boats with prop pockets.
They load the engine with pitch which gives good upper speed but also gives a good jump at times when shifting.
There should be no handling problems, but you will have a high idle/trolling speeds.
Its what the market wants. Use it or not, man is addicted to speed.

Aluminum engine block and head is no problem. More inclined to warp on severe overheads more than cast iron. But much better than cast iron block and aluminum heads.

I guess I'm old school. I like the heavier engines that crank out power.
I feel much better with a Thoroughbred between my legs than a pony with a rocket shoved in its ass making it go as fast as the T.

Also what one person deems not cost effective for a project, another will have no problem with it. Trying to justify anything for a boat is not logical anyway.

Spend away. You don't want the old folks home getting your money when you get diagnosed with CRS, become a ODB and start wearing depends.
