DEG,
I'm one of a very small handful of Bertram owners that have Mazda rotary engines with Mercruiser outdrives. They are 175HP and have a weight to HP advantage over traditional engines. Mine are slightly supercharged and deliver 210HP. Sea trials for me will be in the spring. The downside is they derive HP from higher RPM's like outboards. But these engines have fewer moving parts so less things to break. It's all a trade off.A B20 Bahia Mar owner reported the following:
Top speed: 40mph
Cruise speed: 25mph
Cruise fuel economy: 5 GPH
Drive: Alpha Gen II, 2.0:1 ratio.
Prop: Michigan Wheel 15 1/4 x 15 reworked to 14 3/4 x 15, removed cup.Owner: Gary Spivak
Not an option for everyone, but if you do the numbers, it makes it very appealing. Especially since they use standard Merc Alpa outdrives (Gen II or original alpha's), the front mounts also fit in the same spot as the original inline 6's.
