Capt. Pat, my thanks also for the efforts you have put in to create the forum for us all to meet.
As UV says, it seems like yesterday when I had just bought a good looking boat, in a sad state, here in Cape Town from a guy who told me it was a "Bertram 30". I did a search on Yachtworld and identified it as a Bertram 31. A little more research soon made me realise that I had uncovered a jewel that the previous owner had no idea existed. I was the proud owner of a diesel powered, running B31 for less than $9k !
As I began the total refit late in 1999, I stumbled across Uncle Vic and Carlos talking B31's on a blubliner board, we started chatting and after your first post inviting us across to bertram31.com have never looked back.
Without the help and support of the faithful, I don't think that the refit of "Apple Pie" would have been so succesful. Especially as previous owners had made plenty of non-standard mods over the years. The helpful advice and pictures allowed me to bring her back to life as an original classic.
It really made me proud when "Apple Pie" was launched after the refit and the guy who sold her to me wandered down the dock with his son and asked to go on board to have a look and I heard his son say to him " You dumb sh*t, why the hell did you sell this boat!" I definitely had the last laugh as I had heard him refer to me as "the guy who bought the scrap boat" when we were signing the sale papers.
Many thanks also to Uncle Vic who made me feel so welcome at the first UVII and his wonderful hospitality every year since then. To The Faithful who I have had the pleasure to meet, and especially Bruce, you are a great bunch of guys and I am glad to know you all.
Thanks again Pat.
