Chiles, the Goo Boat is a 16' aluminum flat boat (a/k/a jon boat, or to us Coonasses, a 'bateau') made by Lowe in Ark. It has a 48" bottom and a 70" beam across the gunnels. Power is a 15 h.p. Honda 4-stroke. On the bow deck is a fishing chair, trolling motor, and a depth finder with the transducer on the foot of the trolling motor. The old Goo Boat, which still hangs in the other boathouse sling lift, was also 16', but very narrow, tippy and leaked pretty bad.

I use it for freshwater fishing around the camp. The name 'Goo Boat' comes from the day me & Garry Jordan were fishing about 50' from my place (Garry reminded me today it was about this time of year) and I hooked a huge Gaspergoo (a/k/a freshwater drum) on my flimsy Chinese jig pole on 6# line. An epic battle ensured, and we landed and released what may be a state record Goo. Since we had been drinking Buds for several hours, neither of us can remember what it weighed, but my guess is about 13#.

Amazing how the new wide bottom Goo Boat runs so much faster and better even with just 15 hp.
