In Response To: rot in plywood (Bob S)

Bob,

I would try to remove any rot that you may have found first. Actually, you should remove a little more area than is actually rotted. Then I would take either another piece of ply to fit the area of rot removed. Then I would epoxy all of it. I had found some rot last season in my original cockpit deck. After removing the rotted deck piece, (about 1 sq.ft.), I then found that a support brace was also rotted. I cut out the rot from the brace as well and filled using an epoxy filler. Then I cut new ply to fit the deck, and epoxied all around before fastening back in place. I also made a sister brace that was epoxied and screwed into place before fastening the deck piece. I then replaced the nautilex and it feels as good as new.
