I have recently decided that I am going to own(or be owned by) a Bertram 31. I have been watching this site for a while and finally decided to surface. I am in Calif. and went to look at a 1967 31 Flybridge yesterday. It wasn't clean enough, but the boat 2 berths down was a beautifully restored 1962 31 flybridge. What a clean boat! I will travel to buy within the U.S or Canada. I would like to own a boat that I can fish as well as cruise the San Juan's in. I would like a lower helm . It looks like I have to trade a galley or the stand up head for a lower helm. For our use I think a boat with a lower helm, a galley and a convertable dinette would be preferable. I would also like deisel power. As a newbie, I have many questions about what to watch for in a restored boat. I have restored quite a few classic Whalers(11) and know that boat buyers got a better deal by buying a fully restored boat from me, rather than finding a fixer upper. I would tend towards the cleanest boat that I could find that has had the upgrades as well as recent power. Sorry for rambling. I can tell that this is a site frequented by sincerely bitten and knowledgeable Bertram owners--I will be one soon. Where would you look for your first Bertram and what would you look for? Who should I talk to? I am recently married and my wife has agreed to take a honeymoon looking for a Bertram 31--lucky me! Thanks in advance.
