Hi all,
Buddy Stockwell here.
Just wanted to pop in and introduce myself in person, so to speak, to you fine folks.
Uncle Vic gave me the heads-up that he posted a link here to my website about me selling my law firm (and everything else), and going sailing with my wife, Melissa, for a few years.
I've already received several really nice emails from some of you and thank you for same.
Just to augment Vic's description of me to y'all, though, I'll have to tell you about my job interview with Uncle Vic.
It was 1993 and I had just graduated from LSU Law School. One for the law clerks there told me Vic was looking for a new associate for the banking section of Vic's firm. I had a business degree and I fit the qualifications bill, so I submitted my resume.
About a week later, Uncle Vic called me at home early one Monday morning and told me to come on in for an interview.
I said I needed thirty minutes to get a tie on and he said not to bother just come on in. So, I showed up in my deck shoes and shorts, with a Guy Harvey T-shirt and LSU hat (my daily law school uniform).
Vic and I talked boats and fishing for about two hours and it was nearing the noon hour.
We never discussed anything about law. Nada.
All of a sudden Vic stood up and said: "Let me show you where your office is going to be."
I still laugh about that.
When you truly love boats, it shows, I guess.
Anyway, Vic's a great guy (as y'all already know) and his firm was wonderful to work for as a new lawyer. Vic's advice served me well at his firm and beyond. Vic's guidance was a significant ingredient in the ultimate success of my own firm.
Anyway, Melissa and I are looking forward to our sailing adventure. Those of you worried about us and the pirates, the concern is appreciated. We have, however, been studying up on this trip for five years -- so we are as ready as you can get. We will gang up with other cruisers on "iffy" passages, but let's face it, if your number comes up. . . .
Hey, no worries though. Ain't none of us getting out of here alive anyway, so Melissa and I talked about it and will take what comes in order to make this once in a lifetime trip.
All that said, again, it's a pleasure to say hello here to the Bertram 31 board.
I've always told Uncle Vic that Bertram 31's are not boats, they're ART.
Thanking you again for your support and with best regards to all of you,
Buddy Stockwell
