As usual, I agree with most of Uncle Vic's advice. I want to add that I just replaced the Garmin 2010 on my other (to be nameless, but often referred to here as a "Tubb") boat with the new Garmin 3010. Man, for just a little more dough, you gain all sorts of stuff, like network capabilities, and radar(when available) and coolest of all, the new WX Worx weather and XM Radio satellite download. The weather stuff is way cool and very useful when offshore and you need to monitor incoming weather. I have had it on my airplane for several years now and find it to be almost as good as onboard weather radar for real time information on fast moving fronts and severe weather. Obviously it can't be your eyes in a fog, but for weather, it is the stuff!! Also, there charts are good and you can get your own chart burner and make your own. I have one chip with EVERYTHING from Bangor Maine to the Dry Tortugas, East and West Florida and the Bahamas on it. All the charts, both inshore and offshore, harbor, the works. Made them all myself and only have one chip to manage.
