If anyone is interested I can take some pics of the trailer I just finished, well finished enough to get the boat home. I was completely stump when deciding to go with a cradle or just bunks during the build, but opted for the bunks because I didn’t have the exact measurements of the hull for a cradle. It’s currently a work in progress with a few more tweaks needed. I wasn’t able to completely finish it by the time the marina wanted me out and after seeing it on the trailer there are a few things I would change. The boat is a 28, but the same ideas should work with the 31.
The frame of the trailer is 3/8” thick boxed steel and almost 10 feet wide. I bought three new axels, 7000 pound ratings with brakes. The boat sits on two bunks made from 12” x 10” x 12 foot pine beams and is supported on the sides with four, two per side, flat screw pads and three V screw pads for the very bottom. The screw pads are the same used in boat stands.
I towed it over 70 miles with a 4500 chevy dump and the trailer didn’t have the brakes hooked up at the time, she towed like a dream….DOT would have had a field day if they pulled me over.
If I was to do it again I’d probably consider buying one completed. I have over 3,500 into it, not including my time, and for a couple grand more I’m sure there is a manufacturer out there that you could buy one from.
