UV,
I have mixed feelings of running the wire direct to the battery. Here are my thoughts and logic. Tell me if you agree / dissagree or if I am just plain wrong.ABYC says that all non starting circuits going frim a battery need to be fused within so many inches of the battery. This means that the wire from the battery needs to be fused. Blow the fuse and blow the altenator, but this is better then a fire.
ABYC also says that they reccomend only one single big wire on the connection to the battery.
My engines came stock with a 10ga orange wire that ran from the altenator to big lug on the positive side of the starting solonoid. This is the same thing as going right to the battery, but not sure what would happen if I cut off the main switch coming from the battery. The more I think of it, the more I like the idea of the switches that have a specail lug for the altenator output.
Not to further complicate things, but I installed the battery isolators and fuses for charging multiple banks. That's a whole nother story.
