A few of you may recall the Bounty Hunter( Bahia Mar) out of East Hampton NY and/or my son (who was a parial creator of the secret Bertram handshake) from the Block Island Rendezvous. This summer, my sons, dog and I lost the Bounty Hunter off the Elizabeth Islands, while on our way to Boston on August 13th, scheduled to return to Newport for the 2004/Newport Rendezvous. Each summer we take the month of August(I am a single father) to travel and live aboard the 31, although last summer our trip was cut short rather quickly. Indeed, Randall was one of the initial persons I contacted, as he knew the Bounty Hunter, had helped us in various ways with her and we planned to meet in Newport.
My son Michael is obsessed in a good way with any 31 Bert, who posted yesterday (I just noticed this AM) that we found and purchased new moppie windows from the Rumrunner on e-bay (I hope you all don't mind his posts concerning our progress which at this point is quite remarkable-it keeps us all off the streets).
Because of his efforts in "directing the search for the horse to get back on" we found a 31 Moppie in Cape May NJ named Wits End, certainly an appropriate name for my situation after having sat on a rocky beach and watched the Bounty Hunter break up in many pieces over a 36 hour period in early August. Wits End needs a face lift, as she is original in her exterior.
Wits End is a very sound vessel. However, we need help at this point in the project in identifying suppliers for bridge seating replacement. We are looking for a simple bench seating arrangement with rocket launchers, keeping the original ladder entry to the bridge. Also any source for replacement outrigger support assemblies would be appreciated.
If the 2005 Rendezvous is in August, we will see you all there with Wits End. While it is snowing at the end of Long Island today, its still a wonderful day to work on and fish the 31. The stripers are still at the Race.
Thank you for your help.
