The Odyssey guide on the batterymart.com link Capt. Patrick provided shed much more light on these batteries than salesman at the FLL booth…(he had no clue how a starved electrolyte/gas-recombinant battery actually worked). They have excellent specs appearing to have more plate surface area than the Concorde Lifelines (as do the Optimas) while retaining excellent deep cycling capabilities (their claimed 400 100%DOD cycles is really very good). While it appears you could replace 8D/4D engine starting batteries with a much smaller Odyssey battery, for deep cycle applications the energy density (W-H/Kg) is similar to other sealed valve-regulated batteries (which largely depends on how much lead is in the battery). Perhaps they have an 8D in the works…
