Saw some new battery technology at the FLL show. Odyssey, a closed lead-acid using pure lead. In the past only available to the military, used in F-16's, F-18's, Abrams tanks, USCG ships. Produces no gas, safe to ship via UPS. Very, very small for the power. Charged shelf life 2 years since it has less than 1% per month shelf discharge vs. 1% a day for conventional flooded lead acid batteries. Estimated service life 6-10 years. Not a gel cell. Probably expensive.
Brochure says two Odyssey PC 1200 batteries in parallel have two to three times the cranking capacity of one 8D, and the PC 1200 weighs 36# and measures 7.87" L x 6.66" W x 6.80" H. That is small, folks.
Manufacturer is Enersys, a division of Hawker. Website is http://www.odysseysoutheast.com Phone is 954.786.3088. Curious to see what they cost.
