bow light

Well, today got the B31 bow light I bought on ebay. As I suspected from the demensions, it probably is not from a Bertram, but exact style, just a little bigger. Both lenses are intact, looks like it was never chromed. The two stainless #2 phillips head screws per side were frozen up in the bronze, and the heads were pretty stripped. So I shot the heads with Corrosion X and went to lunch with Andre'. Patrick called as Andre' was pulling up to fetch me, and we worked out some procedures to break them loose, including air impact wrenches, which I have a slew of. After a very relaxing lunch and a few clears to get my courage up, the CX had worked its magic - took a #3 phillips big screwdriver and a small maul and whacked the heads, then turned them. All came out. Could clearly see where the CX had penetrated down the gall between the stainless and the bronze.

So once I had the light apart, started cleaning all the green crud off them. First used some AlumaBrite acid solution, and it took some off, then went to a test spot of muriatic acid, and that did the trick. Wear rubber gloves, try to do it outside (cough, cough) and use an old toothbursh to scrub the green oxidation off. Gets it all. Now I'm about to polish the de-crudded bronze, will start with a low speed buffer and some auto grade Turtle Wax compound. Will report results.
