Having an old, 1962 31, the deck is about 3" above the water surface when it is calm. When bottom fishing anyone in the stern had wet feet. I bought and installed plastic flapper type drain covers that swing between the stern and the out side flapper frame. I got them at Hamilton Marine. I noticed they use the same brand on Cabos, etc. It stopped the wet rear deck 99%, even in hard backing down, which is great. One note of caution on installation! The flapper hangs straight down[gravity]. As the water rises up past the opening the flapper is forced against the boat side surface and then stops the waters entry, as the outside water recedes any water pressure from within opens the drain, as flapper is released. The angle of the flapper as it hanges static is critical. 31's have a stern with a slight reverse angle, therfore, one must put a wedge around the bottom of the flapper frame[I used approx.1/4" fiberglass], so when at rest the flap lines up with it's frame, as it hangs. If this is NOT done, when the water rises, it will open, not close, the flap, which of course, will open in the wrong direction and let water in.
