Another approach I took was to use a [2] part "epoxy" paint used frequently at a commercial, [commercial fishing vessels],yard near by. [Tonys Marine Railway]. It's brushed on and used on wood, glass, and steel on hulls, decks, everywhere. The product name is "Devoe". It wears like iron and because it's brushed on it can be applied much thicker than spray, and has a minor ability in itself to smooth certain surfaces allowing limited access areas to be kept clean. It's also fast to apply.
