Ken,
No problem. Its just we get distracted easy.Bill,
I did some digging into the service interval issue.
Apparently Yanmar and the regional distributors have come up with other guide lines based on geographic location. The Yanmar general guide does specify valves at 250 and a turbo wash every 250 on the LP.
Down here we are told to check the valves at 50hrs and then at 1k. Turbo wash isn't needed as often down here due to fuel composition.
You guys up north seem to get fuel that burns dirty that requires the turbo on the 6LP which has a waste gate, to be cleaned more often so Yanmar uses that as a base reference.
Your smoking is most likely due to a fuel issue.
I would take a sample and have it analyzed.I called my buddy Ed who knows diesel fuel. He has been in the industry forever.
He said that more and more cut rate fuel suppliers are cutting the diesel with used engine oil which makes the engine burn blue and dirties up turbos. This seems to be more of a problem in the mid Atlantic to the Northeast area.
Find out where your fuel comes from and check them out. Your marina either won't know or admit a problem. They are only concerned with price.Ashvaulteen has been a problem also. More concentrated in #2 home heating oil, but it has been blended with diesel also.
It will leave goo like tar deposits in your fuel system and burn dirty. It will ruin an engine.
Have your fuel analyzed.Do keep following the recommended procedures as laid forth by your local dealer/dist.
Keep up the good work.
