Holy crap.
Blue smoke to heat exchangers to bad engines.Let address a few things:
1. There is no class action suit. (rumor started by John Edwards since he's out of a job)2. You don't have to wash turbos that often. That is my point.
Turbo washes are normally done to clean the turbine blades to increase air flow. Unless you have a serious air flow problem, which will result in heavy black smoke, the blades won't get dirty for at least 2000 hours.3. The valve adjustment on all Yanmars are at breakin and usually after 1000 hours even on the 6LP. That's why I questioned who is actually doing the service on the engines in question.
It seems someone is doing the service out of sequence which WILL VOID THE WARRANTEE!!!!!!4. I don't give a rats ass what is said around here. FOLLOW YOUR ENGINE MAKERS GUIDE FOR RECOMMENDED MAINTENANCE INTERVALS. Unless a problem does occur.
5. Take what is said around here with a dose of common sense before you apply it to your situation.
All of you are successful in your own right. Apply your good thinking to your boat also.
Don't jump to conclusions. Think things thru.I went and looked at a boat to repower today.
It is a New England style lobster boat/trawler with a single Detroit 6-71/JT-400hp,2200 hrs tt, rebuilt 300 hours ago and runs great.
The owner talked to someone at the boat show who said Detroits were junk and he needs to replace it. I spent an hour trying to talk him outta spending 45k to put a new engine in because what he had was fine.
In the end he was convinced he had to get rid of it so I will take his 45k and install a new engine for no reason.
THINK....................................
