Shaft questions

I just hauled out yesterday after a great salmon season on Lake Michigan and was making my list of to do's. My shafts have over 13,000 hrs on each side and I am looking to replace them. I measured them and my 28b 1972 appears to have 1 1/8" shafts---I know these must be original--had the boat since it had 600 hrs on them. the shafts have wear where they go thru the logs--warn down quite a bit---Should I replace these with 1 1/4" shafts (which I can get from one of the faithful for a site donation--with only 500 hrs on them) and if I do---can I still use the same shaft strut and change the cutlass bearing? I would like to replace the shaft logs--hate the drip and they are the original plastic ones--any recommendations on doing this and if I will have to make a major modification to change it--ie hole size etc? Thanks in advance
