There was a year, I believe in the late 60s, when the Fed.gov'nmt. started to require boat info-serial # etc. imprinted on the stern to reduce theft etc.[previously each state had made up it's own rules] Prior to that identification often was only on paper work at time of sale. On my 1962,31', foreward near the bow, the boat no. and date are hand written on the hull, then glassed over, when built.
