When I was going through the pulpit thing, I took a pic. of "Christie's" Butler puplit at Montauk. They did what you're talking about (and what I did when I made mine)--cut away the side "skirts" so it matches the toe-rail. I still have the picture of Christie's pulpit. Its not digital, but I'll be happy to drop it in the mail to whoever wants it.
