All I can say is when I took on water fast out there once the stern took on most of the water. I use 2 2000 GPH pumps at the stern and one 2000 GPH pump foward under the berth (Mine is all one huge king size berth) where most 31's have a little deck area. So slightly aft of the water tank is where mine foward one is and it is always dry there. I just recently checked my pump to see if it still is working and it is . Just never runs there only for an emergency of which the emergency engine suction pick-up is by far the best and safest. Bilge pumps are only for small leaks and rain water guys they will clog with a major leak. School of hard knox.... Dave K
