I installed a 3" high dam in front of the bulkhead instead of completely sealing the opening. Worked pretty good keeping the foward area dry and a small automatic bilge pump behind the dam kept the standing water in the bilge to a minimum. I figure any large quantity of water or pump failure the water will spill over the top and activate the foward pump.
