I believe the thicker hull was maintained until the second mold was made sometime in late 60's or early 70's. The older hull also had more strakes in it and in different locations. My 62 had 11'shaft angle, with double struts, that carried through to the motor and transmission. It really limits the dia. prop one can spin [17"]. It does however give "a straight line thrust" which has several benefits. Any large gas or diesel engine requires the newer strut.
