Guys, I was sort of the prototype for the truck engines, and we made some mistakes and a few false starts along the way. Overall, I am very happy. I need a little more horsepower, and will work on that this winter. Cruising 19-20 knots offshore, loaded down, top out 22-23 knots, 1.4 mpg last trip. The engines run flawlessly, but I suspect around 200 hp - not enough for the weight of my boat. Right now I'm running 1.9:1 Twin Disc gears, turning 1.5" shafts and 22x23 three blade props. Leonard down in Matagorda used brand new 24 valve truck Cummins, has more horsepower and a little more speed. The guys who do the conversion shere are trying to get going on the new truck engines with the common rail system - that would really be nice. My project is still ongoing, but it has been, and continues to be a lot of fun, and very interesting.
