I find drive oil gauges useful – I have both transmission pressure and temperature gauges recording readings from trip to trip so I can see trends (not only failures). I have been able to discover a wearing clutch, long before it would have failed, from pressure trending (rate of pressure change when engaging/disengaging the clutch) and discovered a small leak on the drive oil suction side from both pressure and temperature trending.
