I'm a Volvo 60 series owner and I'll quote Kermit the frog -- it ain't easy being GREEN!
I have the same experience as Dave Kosh. The engines were in the boat when I bought her. I didn't want Volvos because I knew parts were EXPENSIVE. However, I was fortunate enough to buy my boat for the price of one of these motors. Add in the fact that I got a B31 with a generator and I think I did okay. My motors had only 1800 hours on them at the time. I called around and found out that I should be able to get 7,000 hours out of them if I beat on them and 10,000 if I am kind.
I didn't mess around, I found a good diesel mechanic and had him tear them down to the blocks, replaced all the peripherals and even put on new wiring harnesses all the way up to the bridge.
Now, 200 hours later, I am happy. I just make sure I get as many aftermarket parts as I can. Just to give you an idea as to how expensive these motors are, when I had them rebuilt, the injectors cost more for my 250hp Volvos, than a friend of mine paid for his 885hp Cat injectors!
