Folks all I can say is I bought the Can Do It with reservations but with only 330 hours on big block 6 cyl Diesels I wasn't excited about the Volvos. I will say over 4 years now and no problems other than normal maintenance. They are smooth running, dependable but yes OEM parts are not cheap. Nor are OEM parts cheap on Cummins or Yannies. My TAMD60C's use mostly USA cooling componants and easy to service. Just like any other service you have to find out where to get them serviced from competent reasonable personel. I always ask the guys with the Charter Fleets who they use and go from there. Remember not every manufacturer has all good engines. Some are just better than others. The old 40 series Volvos had a bad record , 60 series much better record. Cat 3208 excellant ,Cat 3116 horable record. Cummins had mostly good ones but they were not without problems as well. I will say the Americans have a better support network. Bottom line Yanmar, Cummins, Volvo currently all make excellant marine Diesels. But do check your area from the guys that use diesel service, the charter fleet and you will get a better perspective. Bruce knows he works in this and sees it every day.
