I am putting together a deal to install twin diesels in new Oceanmaster 31's. 50 boats in all.
In talking to Yanmar and Cummins about quanity purchase they have both remarked that Volvo is trying to buy the marine market and is undercutting the engine prices to OEMS and aftermarket vendors.
They both seem to be loosing ground to Volvo and are some what concerned.
I reminded them that the dealer network for Volvo is thin and that replacement parts are expensive even for marine.
Most boaters are just uneducated about engines and support and fall for some used car salesman in boat shoes ruse about value.
As the new emmission requirements come due and electronic engines are born, prices are soaring.
I priced a new 305 Cummins for those 31's and they are 26,500.00 each.
7k more than the Yanmar 6LP.
Yikes. Hold on to your wallets.
bruceWhat sound does water and vinegar trucks make when they crash?
