Hi: I had the same concerns when I first rode in a 31.
It goes away , Or you get used to it.

I Finished a repower last year with used /Cummins 300s . Fits right in snug.
Did it myself . I hear I saved about $20k in labor (I did spend 5-6 k on hardware,I did it right)& would recommend it .
